Students need to be prepared to play the following Concert Scales: Concert Bb, F, C, G, D and Chromatic. Students should have the scales and arpeggios prepared as many octaves as possible and memorized if possible (extra octaves and memorized no required but encouraged). Students also need to have a prepared solo to play at the audition. If the student is interested in auditioning for the honor band, they should talk to Ms. Dean-Knapp no later than November to pick out a solo and begin working on the solo. It is recommended that whatever solo they pick out for the audition they also take to solo/ensemble festival in Late January/Early February so they have ample time to get feedback for improvement. Students who find out about this honor band later than February still have time to learn a solo before their audition, they just might not be as prepared. Students will also be asked to sight-read at their audition. Auditions are usually some time between March and April. Notification will occur the following week after their audition and if they are accepted they will receive the pieces for the honor band in the mail. Students should begin working on the music as soon as they receive it and come play it for Ms. Dean-Knapp.
